Stepping off, into the cow pie...

I find myself not in a position to refuse any significant amount of work, and so I have this job whose performance would be greatly aided through the "aligning" of materials translated by others previously, if only to be able to see what kinds of style decisions have been made.

"Aligning" files is the process by which one takes a source file and its translation, and then segments them in such a way that segments of the source file match up to the corresponding segments of the target file.

This feature makes it relatively simple to create translation memory files for subsequent use (with all the appropriate caveats thrown in), or at the very least a database that can be used as a kind of concordance. In my opinion, the concordance feature that's part of most translation memory programs is a close second in terms of value (segment matching is first), especially when working on new documents in well-established projects.

* * *The inbox brought in a fair quantity of work this morning, and I did my level best to get a large chunk of it back to the client. This I did, in plenty of time for tai chi. I've also been trying to avoid casual face-stuffing episodes, with some success, but it will take a string of days of such avoidances, methinks, to show any result.
