Yesterday's early departure from the airport in Mexico must be some kind of first for me. Maybe it was made possible because United's reservation system realized that everyone had already checked in for the flight, and since the entertainments offered the traveler on the secure side of the airport span the gamut from A to just short of B, it's not as if folks were going to be wandering all over the place and parking themselves at whatever passes for a place to kill time at the Guanajuato airport.

So we left about 20 minutes ahead of schedule, only to end up, somewhere over south Texas, instructed to fly a holding pattern for about that amount of time so that various difficulties created by weather could be dealt with. So in the end, we more or less landed on time. Passport control and customs went fairly speedily. We even managed to retrieve our vehicle with relatively little hassle. (I had to call the parking company to send a shuttle and had to use a pay phone to do so. It was the first time in I can't recall how long I used such a device; FWIW, it cost me 50 cents to place the call.)

The dogs were ecstatic to see us; on the other hand, the cats sort of sat there with a "what's the big deal" look on their kissers when they deigned to look in our direction at all. I don't know; maybe all of us "staff" look the same to them.

I spent most of this morning cutting a bit more than a week's worth of lawn grass out front (no joke with a push mower), and just as I picked up the last of the cuttings, etc. that had been spewn onto concrete walks and driveways, the rain started coming down in bucketfuls. The back yard will have to wait, maybe until I get a machete or something equally useful.

It took a while to get my office up and running, but I was happy to note that the synchronization that had been set up to make sure my office machine and my "road warrior" netbook were always up to date appeared to be working.

Work came in, but I did little more than acknowledge its arrival. I will look at it in the morning.

Galina and I went over to Natalie's place in the evening, where I did a couple of minor repairs, correctly diagnosed the reason behind an apparent electrical problem, but was not able to figure out what was wrong with the stove. I figure three out of four isn't a bad average for this kind of thing.

Back to the grind tomorrow. Glad today was such a snoozer.
