I finally managed to finish the translation, but had forgotten just how miserably slow MemoQ is when it comes to spell checking. I've been at it for nearly 90 minutes, which frankly is far from acceptable, but given that the application is pretty good in the concordance department and in allowing me to filter for particular strings, I can't complain too harshly.

No. Wait a second... yes, I can.

The spell check capability really sucks!

The good news, at least, is that I have finished all the text. I have no idea what scope of despeckling I will be able to do before sending in the final product. Hopefully, I can delay delivery until late morning tomorrow, except that squeezes me in other areas.

AAUGH!

So the document I'm trying to despeckle is so pathological, the mind reels.

What kind of drooling imbecile places text that is to be translated inside of a box whose size cannot be changed (at least, not easily, as the process involves first ungrouping bunches of elements)?

What kind of grinning cretin plants diagrams within a document in such a way (anchored to a spot on the page, in such a way as to be "in front of" text) as to require each diagram to be individually twiddled so that the caption of every other diagram (and only the caption) doesn't carry over to the next page when the document's page size is changed from A4 to 8.5x11?

What kind of misbegotten blatherskite inserts sections like they were going out of style, often for no apparent reason, in such a way as to make insertion of a footer a job in itself? Despite the fact that the source document actually has no footers (the originator wisely inserted page numbers in the header), footers (which the client requires of me) have been configured with "different first page" turned on (which means the first page of each section has a footer that's different from the footer on the first page of the section), and each section apparently starts at a random page number, so even once I get rid of the "different first page" idiocy, I'll have to go through the document one more time to get the page numbers to be consecutive.

All of this, naturally, is designed to aid me in the principal task at this time, which is to make sure my translation is of high quality.

Not.

Bugger!
