I tried to get as much outstanding work done as possible by the time I left for my tai chi class yesterday, because Natalie and Kyle were scheduled to arrive at IAH at about the time I'd be getting back, and I really wanted to be able to spend some time with them for the few days they'll be here before they return to Canada.

My main client had other plans, however, and provided me with enough work to take up most of the day, though that didn't stop Galina and me from taking the kids to Kemah for dinner.

Upon returning, I even managed to translate "just 1000 more words" of the Big Job™, bringing me that much closer to the despeckling phase of the job and even more important, reducing the nervous pressure caused by thinking about the deadline all the time.

I was very fortunate this past week with my response to the LJ Idol prompt, because upon reading some other posts, I was impelled to google the prompt, and learned that "crabs in a barrel" refers to a phenomenon in which members of a community impede the attempts of individual community members to break out, presumably to get ahead or improve themselves. Had I been aware of that meaning, I might never have recalled the unusual crab-related end to a military training exercise that formed the theme of my post.

Cheers...
