I was awakened early this morning by the sound of—what else?—rain and thunder outside my window. I fired up the weather app on my phone and figured I should stay in bed for a while, so that when the time did come to feed Shiloh and Thumper, it would be during a period between showers, so I could walk them on a lead (as they are very reluctant to "do their business" in a wet back yard).

The high point of the day that didn't involve work or household chores was planting a second tomato plant, this one an heirloom variety. I also transplanted a citronella plant that deserved a bigger and better-looking pot. A sort-of high point was determining what it was that is eating the leaves of my luffa plants over by the concrete noise barrier at the back of the property.

Snails.

Silly me, if it hadn't been for the fact that I caught one of the little so-and-so's in the act, I never would have linked the small patches of shine (which remind me a bit of the shiny parts on Ceres) to snails. Once I found one snail, I suddenly spied quite a few others, which I removed from the area. I seem to recall there are ways of discouraging—also known as "killing"—snails that involve beer and/or salt, but I am just too tired right now to learn more about it, having spent the remainder of the day translating like a madman (which raises the interesting question of how, exactly, a madman might translate, but I digress...).

The weekend is going to be a pip, since one of my clients just changed the deadline for a fairly large document from "no rush" to "how soon can I get it, and can I get it even sooner?"

Alors, je ferai de mon mieux!
