Waiting time...

Today's session with the ophthalmologist went smoothly and, more important, quickly, with a minimum of bright yellow laser light flashing into my eyeball. While I waited my turn in the reception area, I recalled having to leave my machine at my office, collecting data regarding a KERNEL_DATA_IMAGE_ERROR, after which the blue screen offered by Windows 8 assured me the comptuer would be restarted. But that's another tale...

With said recollection, I took one mental step back and recalled that the error occurred as I tried to select a section of segments in MemoQ to see if, perhaps, I could use regular expressions to automagically convert DD.MM.YY dates to look like MM/DD/YY (e.g., the Fourth of July would appear as 07/04/15 instead of 04.07.15).

The level of digging I did while sitting in the waiting room suggested that perhaps I should look into a MemoQ feature called "auto-translate."

It works like gangbusters!

One wild and wooly day...

Galina and I have been talking about canceling the dish service, as we really don't spend a lot of time in front of The Tube, so today, I finally cut the, um... no cable, so what did I cut? Hmmm... No matter. Now, OTA and the Tivo box we got not long ago are going to have to do the trick.

My insurance agent called to inform me that yes, indeed, I was SOL as far as my insurance was concerned, that pretty much everyone who is offering insurance is stuffing individuals like me into HMOs, and that while he'll keep researching my problem, it may be that I'll have to shell out simoleans that I don't necessarily have next year to get, for example, cancer treatment.

I spent additional time on the phone, and sent a message to my doctor at MDA, trying to figure out a way out of my predicament. No joy, so far.

Someday, when I am in a better mood, remind me to point out the interesting parallels between a "market" that offers a product for a limited time only, with little to no information about what, exactly, you're buying, and the way most things were sold to citizens in the old Soviet Union. It sort of makes the "phone company" era that existed back in the day (and made "phone company" synonymous with studied indifference) look like a good deal by comparison. But I needlessly raise my blood pressure... :^)

In work news: Rechnung los! I finally got around to invoicing that 30,000+ document from a week ago or so. Although I haven't yet invoiced all work done in November, if I did, the month would be pretty decent, actually (though if you averaged November with October, you'd end up with two mediocre months).

In other work news, I sent back three jobs to my best client and formatted two of five articles due tomorrow to one of my new clients.

In other news, I had some canned salmon, cheese, and salad for breakfast and a bit more salmon and mixed nuts for dinner. The calorie load was probably about what it was yesterday, maybe less. I don't feel particularly hungry as I do this, and was actually pretty spunky during taiji (I went "flying"—Sifu's term for getting thrown—for the first time this year, and actually sort of enjoyed it! Among other things, I think it reflects progress, of a sort.)

And it's almost 10 pm.
