Oh, wow...

My mental acuity has, at times, been described as "thick," with one memorable description amplifying this to "thicker than a cow pie and twice as lumpy." I must have been in just such a state up until early yesterday evening.

You see, about ten days ago, Galina received an invitation for us to attend a get-together that took place last night. I was a bit miffed, because last night was the night of the bimonthly (in the once-every-two-months sense) meeting of the Lone Star Pen Club, which I enjoy simply because it gets me away from the house for a while, to where I can talk to people I don't usually talk to.

I think of it as my equivalent to Galina's "evening out with the girls" that takes place, on the average, every week. In any event, Galina resolved to go the party, and I resolved to go to my pen club.

And then yesterday, while working and pausing to wonder how come more work hasn't been sent by the Russian side, I got to counting days, and was a little surprised to find out that yesterday was New Year's Eve, at least according to the Old Style calendar that was observed in Russia up to the Revolution (and explains why the "Great October Revolution" actually occurred in November).

So I got to wondering... had we been invited to a New Year's Eve party? I got to seriously thinking about this on my way to the pen club meeting, and by the time I got to where I was going, I had resolved to talk to who I needed to talk to and then hightail it back and join Galina, which is exactly what I did.

It was a very good decision on my part. Galina and I had a good time, all things considered (and "all things considered" is something about which further deponent shall saith not, at least for now).
