I had intended to get an early start to the day, but I didn't fall asleep until about 3 am, so getting up at 5 am didn't seem like a prudent course of action. I ended up getting up at 8 am, and managed to get out of the house within a couple of hours.

By the time I left the house for the house in Webster, Galina was near Abilene, about 6-7 hours away from Seabrook. While at the Webster house, I managed to clear about half the master bedroom (which needs to be painted), after which I took a break by going to get the oil changed in Natalie's Honda.

While the Honda was being serviced (and inspected—it's that time of year), I stopped by a place called Krave Tacos, where I ordered a small bowl of menudo (thinking I was ordering posole) and a taco made with beef tongue. The taco was delicious, but I was a little puzzled when it came to the menudo which is basically tripe soup. When I realized what had happened, I shrugged and started to eat it.

It was delicious.

I then returned to the house and got more stuff out of the bedroom, but my problems involved (a) where to put it, as the garage was getting pretty full, and (b) how to handle the heavier items. I guess that'll be something we'll deal with this coming week, as we lay down flooring.

In older news, I attended another meetup yesterday, a "write-in" organized by the Bay Area Writers League. The idea of the session was for people to get together in a coffee shop, fire up their computers, write to a prompt for about an hour, and then read their stuff to each other.

Now, writing to a prompt is something I know how to do, and I managed to acquit myself well, but after two sessions, I am convinced this group is not for me. I don't know what I was expecting, but this group is not it. That said, maybe I do have an inkling of what I was expecting: an environment where one can learn something. But after an evening of hearing people critique each other's stuff based on hearing it read and a couple of hours writing to a prompt, I now think what I was expecting is simply not... I don't know, realistic?

Galina pulled into the driveway somewhere around 4 pm. I am so glad she's home.
