Exerting willpower...

It would appear I am a slave to whatever it is that impels people to go out and get the latest gadget, because I keep returning to the idea of upgrading my phone to either a Samsung S6 or the latest iteration of the iPhone.
Well, perhaps not a complete slave, else this post would be all about my shiny new toy.
Instead, this is an exercise to again pass through my typing fingertips and past my reading eyeballs the main point, which is that I'm doing very well with my S3, despite its obviously pre-Cambrian provenance. I receive far many more calls from marketers and other lowlifes than I do business calls, I do all my serious work on my computer (although I have been known to respond to emails using my phone), and frankly, the iPhone wouldn't even be in the running if it wasn't for a handful of apps that exist in the Apple universe and not in that of Android.
(A case in point is Evernote's Scannable app. It works on my old 4S, and it's really a pretty nifty piece of software, but it was announced, if memory serves, sometime in January of this year, and since then, Evernote has been pretty silent about when and if there'll ever be a version for the rest of us benighted masses. Then again, the gnomes at Evernote HQ may just be following the Microsoft playbook for the latter's "Office Lens for Windows Phone" product, which took just over a year to appear on iPhone and Android after the product's introduction. I shall save my Evernote rant for later.)
If I were a satisfied Verizon customer, I might be enticed to move to the S6, if I don't have to dig deeply into my pocket to do so (and some of the deals I've seen are pretty tempting), but as it turns out, I'm ready to jump ship, so I don't want to indenture myself further. (And whether we will or will not switch carriers will have to wait until Galina's two-yearsentencecontract is up.)
Besides the stuff I've pledged to do, I've also spent a little time cleaning up my org files and learning a little about the emacs diary. My agenda now looks a lot better (the deadwood has been taken care of), and my diary now actually looks organized!
Cheers...
