I am probably overly moved by my emotions right now, but I am of the opinion that the only thing worse than having Google return only two hits for a term one is seeking to translate (and to have one of those hits link to a web page in a related language), is to have Google return only one hit, which links to a copy of the document one is translating.

Cheers...

Hahaha. Same thing happens all the time while reading Les Miserables in French. Granted, google never gives out just the one result, but A LOT of sites quote that book right back at you as the only example of the usage of the phrases you are reseaching.

Have you developed any strategies for coping with this phenomenon?

Sometimes it helps to search for the expression in Google books, but most often I try different queries until I'm reasonably certain I understand the meaning.

Something like 'red wool hat', 'hats made from wool', 'red wool clothes' and so on, based on what appears in initial searches.

Sometimes it also helps to search for it in another language.

I don't know whether to laugh or to cringe.

This brings back memories of the time I brought a question to the colleague who owned a specific feature, and he pointed me... right back to the document I had written as a general "HowTo". :O
