Disturbing mail...

I got a disturbing piece of mail today, and I'm not trying to be coy when I say I don't want to talk about it. It's just that there's nothing I can do about the news until Monday, at which time I will speak with The Powers That Be in Denver. There is a chance (though I doubt it) that things may aright themselves with a minimum amount of fuss. Then again, it may turn out that the news is irrevocably bad.
* * * I got my DVD of Akira Kurosawa's High and Low (starring Toshiro Mifune) in the mail from Hong Kong today. I'd bought it on eBay an eternity ago, and risked a total botch by sending cash through the mail instead of spending an inordinate amount of extra money to "encapsulate" the purchase price in a money order or something similar. Watching it today seemed a bit strange, in light of the mail item that led off this post.
I wrote a post about this film last year, and I think both my post and the film (which I found just as engrossing this second time around) hold up well. I'm glad I acquired a copy on DVD.
* * * Galina took pretty much the whole day off today, so with the exception of an hour or so at home for lunch, I was at the shop all day long. I dropped off a test roll at the photo shop in our center, and the owner processed the roll and printed a set of 3x5s for free (naturally, I bought a new roll there). We missed picking up our chain saw, the bill for which is going to be about $20, if memory serves, and that includes a chain sharpening.
Tomorrow, Drew and I will start the process of moving stuff around the shop, in order to make more room for the staff to do packing and wrapping services. I will then have to sit down and do some serious thinking about new ways to attract business to the store, in case the news in the letter turns out to be truly bad.
To the extent that I can, I will try to put that letter out of my mind. Between moving things at the shop and the Leonids, it's going to be a hell of a weekend!
Cheers...

Date: 2001-11-16 10:03 pm (UTC)I'd probably go for anything that Kurosawa directed, but having Mifune in it would make it a sure thing for me. I've never seen that one, however.
