Florida dreamin'...
Sep. 4th, 2000 11:59 pmSpending most of my time this weekend trying to straighten out my Linux problem was probably something I had to do for my own peace of mind, but in retrospect, I'm thinking maybe it wasn't such a hot idea. I left undone too many things that should have been done. On the other hand, it's not as if I'm not paying bills; there are times when maybe it's okay to drop other cares in favor of what's elementally bugging you.
So it turns out that, in the mad, utter rush to get out of here on time, I come up with the brilliant idea of putting the file I'm supposed to edit on disk, so I can edit it once I get to Florida and then e-mail it back. As ideas go, it's not bad, except that the file is in Word 97 format, and it turns out my wife's computer is loaded with Word 95. Urk. The only good aspect of this is that the original file is good and doesn't require all that much actual editing, but there's way too much to retype, so if I can find the Word converter that Microsoft had available some time back (do they even support Word 95 anymore?), I may have a chance to avoid the wrath of the documents department.
Once situated at the Royal Mansions in Cape Canaveral, I have spent a little time trying to get connected via my ISP, Netcom (or whatever it's called now after the n-th sequential merger). Once I finally got connected, I went immediately to the Microsoft site to see if I could find the Word document converter and...found it (all 1.2-MB of it) in jig time. It's installed and I'm ready to do a little serious rock and roll in the editing department.
This post is my first using the Windows LJ client, and so far, as they say, so good. The fingers are back in limber shape after all of today's flying. There are no clients to take care of tomorrow, so it's off to work!
Cheers...
