The alarm woke me at 5 am this morning, which gave me just about enough time to shower, dress, inhale some coffee, empty out the car Galina was taking to Albuquerque, and then review the materials for the telecon.
The telecon went off without too many hitches, though a couple of times I probably should have asked the speaker for more details. Conveying what I heard led to some temporary misunderstandings, but those got ironed out rather quickly. This was the same group I worked with last week, so if I continue to work with them, I'll become more attuned to what is going on in the group (they deal with LANs on the ISS), and will recognize particularities in speech more easily.
The rest of the day was spent at the store, and there's not much that can be said about that. I used ssh to hit the machine at the house, and it worked slicker than anything. Client T in Houston sent me a job, but the files mass in at 5 MB and I wasn't about to try to play with them at the store. I'll look at them tomorrow morning.
I sent the new client (code-named R, from Geogia) a status report yesterday summarizing progress on the job. I got a response thanking me for the note and saying that a Monday delivery was fine. Be that as it may, I now have three items on my plate, plus Galina and I are invited to play "Cash Flow" on Saturday, so that will make for a very busy time otherwise.
* * * Galina and I aren't much for pay-per-view, but we decided to shell out the bucks last night to watch Captain Corelli's Mandolin. I liked the film, despite the rawness near the end and the rather stereotypical depiction - or is it? - of the soldiers in the Italian army during WW II. I liked the character of Corelli very much; I felt I could identify with him, a man placed into a circumstance beyond his control and making the best of it. A man who is a soldier only because he has to be, who transforms - to the extent that he can - his environment to suit his nature, and much more comfortable singing or playing his mandolin than he is at training for war.
* * * Galina and Lee finally showed up around 6:30 pm or so. We all had a light dinner, and have all dispersed. I'm going to hit the hay after posting this. Lee is two computers over from me, working on 'zion' and installing AIM so as to check up on her buddies, after which she says she's going to go to bed, too.
Drew has been spending the past couple of nights putting together a balsa-and-tissue model of a P-40 airplane, and trying to learn all about model airplaning all at once. He says he wants to make model airplaning his hobby. It's good to see him enthusiastic about something; it changes his whole appearance, it seems.
So, that's it for now. Tomorrow, I plan to put a big dent in the rest of the 20 pages for the new client, and to review the 5 MB that arrived today. Then there are chores, chores, chores...
(So, what else is new?)
Cheers...
