alexpgpI think I managed a couple of hours to myself today. The rest of the time it was go, go, go. All of the items I'd set up to be done today went undone, and to tell the truth, doing 10 pages of translation is about the furthest thing from my mind right now.
After closing the store, Galina and I went to the "Branding Iron" barbeque place south of town. We'd been there once, a long time ago, back before I accepted my position in Houston in 1996, and the food was not memorable. If I look for positive things to say about the place, the staff is very friendly and the food quality is consistent. (Of course, having recently been exposed on multiple nights to the Central Texas BBQ in Pearland may be exerting an undue influence on my assessment.)
* * * My mind still turns to yesterday's series finale of The X Files. I shall not even attempt to count the spoilers that were displayed before my eyes (did the Lone Gunmen really buy the farm?). However, I find it interesting that Sunday's drive took me to the Texas-New Mexico border, where the climactic scenes with the Cigarette-Smoking Man and the supersoldier took place (although I'll grant you, it's a rather lengthy piece or real estate, speaking linearly) and through Roswell, where the camera faded to black on the lovey-dovey couple. Yeow!
At any rate, Carter now has until December 22, 2012 to release a sequel X Files film, or we're all done for.
* * * Sasha continued to have a bad day yesterday that went on through the night. She woke me twice during the night and apparently had one last seizure this morning. She seems okay now. It's strange that she went the whole month without me in the vicinity with no incident. Then I show up and, wham! Is it me?
* * * No, I am definitely not doing any translation tonight. I think I will try to find volume 2 of the Seafort saga and pick up the story again. Or go join Galina and watch some teevee. Or something.
