I finished the assignment on time today, and do not look forward to any sequel any time soon. I need to marshal my arguments, arrange my thoughts, and tell them what I really think (without, of course, alienating them).

It turned out to be a reasonable day, despite some early morning grumpiness on Galina's part. Feht and his son stopped by in the early afternoon, and I donated an old IDE hard drive to the cause of William's new 486 computer.

I've had mixed luck in trying to download files for the PowerMac. Some .sit files download correctly, but the majority of them do not, and although I suspect it may have something to do with the way Internet Explorer handles such files, I seem also to have the problem working off my Linux box, which technically uses the entries in the table of MIME types to figure out how to do things.

It has been raining, on and off, for several days now. We had the carpets cleaned yesterday, and while I was down in my office struggling with a 5900-word file, the rain came and soaked the carpet in the corner of our bedroom. Today, the rains came several times. After dinner, we went out on the porch and I could swear there was some standing puddles in the driveway of the house that's being built next door.

My friend Radek runs a (more or less) weekly translator's mailing of jobs he's collected using his Secret Formula (okay, it's not secret, but he does find some interesting posts from all over). This week, he repeated his formula for figuring out what to charge for your work. It's almost a small education in marketing, and I'm sure it intimidates the heck out of newcomers. (Want to earn $75,000 per year translating? Be prepared to charge 15 cents per word to help reach your goal of $650+ for every day spent working!) If nothing else, his message is very uplifting.

Brady came over for dinner, which consisted of brats and sauerkraut. It was a fine meal (especially the wine!).

Now to go off and think about business development.

Cheers...
