Just a couple of items before I wrap things up and go to sleep.

I got confirmation from the ATA that my proposed presentation at this November's conference (on Linux and Open Source) has been accepted. Now all that's left is to actually put together the slide show and make the presentation. There is, however, time between now and when this must occur. I am sure it will be enough, but only barely.

Second, the following image attests to the fact that yes, one can buy postage in the international departure area at JFK airport:

Stamp machine at JFK. International departure area.

When I was there waiting to fly out of the country, I had an letter I wanted to send to my mom (a get well card). I was informed that there are no post boxes at the airport, for security reasons, of course.

Why, then, is there a farblegargling stamp vending machine there, in the international departure area, to sell you ordinary U.S. postage stamps?

I mean, it'd be silly enough to have a stamp vending machine in, say, a domestic terminal when you consider that you'd have to leave the airport to be able to use any stamps you bought from the machine. But when a person is in the area where the machine in the photo is located, their next stop is outside the U.S., where U.S. postage stamps are good for very little, certainly not for postage.

That's enough spleen-venting for the day. Now I can go to sleep.

Cheers...
