Part of the departure plan included a load of laundry, and as I was stuffing the washer full of clothes, I happened to look out the window and noticed the web of the Nephila clavipes had been fully restored. So, I grabbed my Canon and decided to see if I could get a decent shot of the animal.

How's this?

Orb spider (Nephila clavipes) and part of its web

Of course, the shot gives you no idea of the size of the critter, so Natalie graciously volunteered her hand for the following photo:

Ack! That's creepy. Thank heaven we don't have anything that huge up here.

Give me a polar bear any day...

Uh... good call. Though with a Polar Bear you tend to know then they're decending toward your head... and if you don't... well the impact usually makes that a moot point.

I visited and bookmarked the site of F. Starmer's and enjoyed his article on the spider ... thanks ... and i'm glad your spider is back in business again.

Yep! That's the one!

The one in our yard spent the morning re-doing its web and now it is back in the waiting mode.
