Copying files...

While inflicting just over 4000 words worth of translation on myself, I decided to copy files in the background from the VAIO to the Big Hard Drive™ on my new/used desktop. I figure, once the files are copied, I can burn them onto a DVD or two (or three), or just let them sit on the BHD. With the files on DVD, it'd be a lot easier to think about reformatting the VAIO's hard drive or installing Windows 2000 in place of WinMe.
For sure, the software (more than likely WinMe) doesn't make it easy.
Trying to do a copy over the network was laughable, as it flaked out at the drop of a hat, so I installed an FTP server on my new/used desktop, which I have dubbed gagarin. After struggling for a while, I think I got the hang of granting permissions and started to transfer files, but the VAIO spontaneously rebooted somewhere en route. (The VAIO's CPU was cool and the fan was running, so it wasn't that, I think.)
So I reached into my bag of tricks and installed LapLink on gagarin, and have been trying to copy files across ever since. Attempts to copy the C: drive uniformly end in failure for no discernible reason (a few sharing violations have been reported, but as far as details are concerned... nothing but silence).
I'm trying to use the LapLink Xchange Agent now, and hopefully, I'll have better luck. We'll see.
Cheers...
