My paddle striketh over...

There are few things more enjoyable than an impromptu evening involving a lot of different people and a suitable focus for celebration. That's exactly what happened last night in observance of the old (Russian Orthodox) New Year.
I got back to the Fili at 8 pm and soon found myself in the dining hall, breaking bread with the rest of the interpretation team and Bertrand M., one of the leads on the Alcatel team. Bit by bit, other folks streamed in, including some people who had just arrived today. Eventually, this state of what I can only describe as "organic interaction" was established and tension began to melt and flow out the door in torrents.
Afterward, Veronique C. suggested that Maya and I join her and Bertrand M. in a game of doubles table tennis. Among other revelations, it turns out Bertrand holds his paddle using a pencil grip (as I do) and probably would be a challenging opponent in a one-on-one game. Veronique and I beat him and Maya. Later, Maya teamed up with me to play against Veronique and another member of the French team and this time, I was on the losing side.
The feel of blood coursing through my muscles inspired me to walk on the treadmill this morning. I covered a little over 1.5 miles (burning 117 calories, according to the informative display) while my laundry was in the washer at the other end of the building. My weight remains high, at just over 240 lb.
The problem I have with exercise, besides the time it takes, is that generally it is tremendously boring. Even as a teenager on the high school track team, I hated to run laps around the track (and around the cross-country course) not because the activity was hard or painful, but because I hated the utter boredom associated with it. During my time on the treadmill this morning, I listened to half a CD of The Americanization of Benjamin Franklin and that made the time go more pleasantly, to be sure.
The schedule of upcoming tasks is in the process of being shuffled, and while any change will affect my personal work schedule, the word is that it won't affect the overall schedule. (Nor will it affect the barbeque ILS has planned for Saturday.)
I better go check my laundry, which has been in the dryer for the past little bit.
Cheers...
