A late rush job...

alexpgp...is what dragged me out of bed, which is where I've been for much of the day. I made sure I slept in this morning, until nearly 10 am, and then I went for a short walk and did "light duty" for the rest of the day, until about 8 pm, when I lay down to watch a pre-recorded episode of the new Kojak series, starring Ving Rhames on the USA network.
It's quite a jump from Telly Savalas to Ving Rhames in the role of Lt. Theo Kojak, but it's been long enough so that relatively few viewers will know (or care) about any comparisons. The change doesn't bother me at all; and at least the two episodes I've watched are entertaining (and Kojak's character is not predictable, plotwise, nor do the writers try too hard - aside from the cherry Tootsie Roll Pop and the seemingly obligatory tag line "Who loves ya, baby?" from time to time - to nod to the bygone Kojak of my youth, which is a plus in my book).
Another show I'm looking forward to watching (although pre-recorded, since it's been years since I've broken the circle of being in front of the TV at a set time on a set night) is something called Eyes, about a large private investigation firm headed by what I can only call a true lateral thinker (meaning, basically, that the writing is crisp and keeps one off-balance in terms of plot predictability). The regular characters on the show form an eccentric ensemble, too, including a black gay man - the boss' lieutenant - whose sanity, it is strongly hinted, relies upon his continued use of medication, and a shapely former crypto specialist whose stiff, by-the-book attitude will, I think, continue to be eroded by the boss's tender ministrations as the season continues.
The rush job is gone, along with its invoice. I plan to hit the sack in a few minutes and get a good night's sleep. If that does not happen, I plan to move my base of somnolence over to the spare bedroom, and the more comfortable bed, tomorrow night.
