...lots of things seem bent on irritating me.

I got an offer to do an short-turnaround edit, quoting a reasonable hourly rate but a wholly inadequate time estimate (especially if you consider the volume of reference translations to which I would be expected to conform the text). Brrr.

Then I got an email from a translation agency that hired someone to do a job, where said someone dropped off the face of the earth until after the deadline. In self defense, the agency hired another freelancer to do the job and thus, is not keen on paying the first freelancer, who submitted the work late and is now demanding payment. I can understand the situation, but do not comprehend... why tell me? Even with my connection to the ATA, the freelancer in question is not a member, nor is the agency (to the best of my knowledge), nor does the ATA (or the division of which I am a part) engage in arbitration of these kinds of disputes.

Nobody, but nobody I know in this town owns an old reel-to-reel tape recorder, either. A minor nit - and from its magnitude it's evident I'm running out of things to gripe about - but irritating just the same.

It is probably indicative of some character flaw that I've chosen to start by dwelling on negatives. Then again, it's good to see them out in the open, naked to the world, and looking ever more inadequate and puny the longer they stay out in the sun. Perhaps the exercise of laying them down on phosphor has a benefit, after all.

On the opposite side of the ledger, I got a call asking about my availability for another satellite gig overseas sometime in the July-August time frame. I also finished the mega-edit job (along with an invoice) and also invoiced yesterday's zwischenaufgabe (an undoubtedly illegal word I intend to mean "in-between assignment," as in: a short job you accept and complete while working on a larger job with a longer deadline). That leaves one item, technically due Friday, which I think I can probably bump off tomorrow morning.

The doctor appointment I scheduled a couple of weeks ago is tomorrow afternoon, in Durango. I'm looking forward to getting an assessment of my condition, especially as my at-home BP measurements seem to be pretty good, but we'll see.

Cheers...

Huh. That's a little weird that they'd take it to you. Maybe they think you're the ATA hitman or better yet, the ATA exorcist!!! Hehe.

You do focus on the negative, and it farking blows. You've gone ahead and passed that dim torch to your child, too. Thanks.

I miss you, by the way.
