The usual drill: the store for a couple of hours in the morning, then home for translation, interrupted by a need to send documents overnight to Houston (which means another trip to the store), then home for more translation, then to the store again for the last hour of the day, then home for more translation.

I feel like a farblegargling ping-pong ball.

I finished a 2000 word item for my Houston client (though I do need to do footers and spell-check before sending it off tomorrow morning) and also completed a 90% first draft of the second of the files assigned last Friday by a very good client for whom I last worked just a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, the source material is a scan that, if it were a carcass, would make a buzzard gag. Between blowing up the text on my screen to 400% or more and using the built-in redundancy of language to help me past the really bad parts, it's taken me longer than usual, but there is one overriding factor in play here: I can use the work. In all, I have completed nearly or just over 5000 words for the day.

BTW, my referring to the job as a 90% first draft means that I haven't addressed figure captions, and there are about 10 such figures to worry about. No worries there. There is also a sidebar that came through so poorly in the scan that - although it might be of some academic value to see just how much of the text is recoverable - I'm simply declaring it a total illegible loss until I get a better copy to work with.

Heck, it's nearly midnight. I suppose I should get some sleep.

Cheers...
