Cat!

Baby, our cat, is on her last legs, losing weight, with her kidneys slowly shutting down. She is approaching that "big sleep" after a 15-year run in which she outlasted three dogs and hundreds (conservatively speaking) of mice, chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits (and, I suspect, probably a deer or elk or two, I don't know), after having personally dispatched and, in most cases, eaten them. Galina and I love this animal, but there are times - such as right now - when she annoys the stuffing out of me.

This feline has developed an uncanny ability to meow continuously for upwards of... well, I really don't know, as I've not been able to stand it for more than a couple of minutes. Also, in the middle of the night, she will climb up on my bed and s-l-o-w-l-y make her way to just next to my head, where she will then softly put her paw on my cheek and flex her claws, ever so slightly. If I happen to be asleep when she does this and open my eyes, my field of vision is filled with cat, doing nothing but thinking about... something, probably musing about what alternatives are open to her now that her claws are resting on my face, which is pretty disconcerting.

Keeping the bedroom door closed doesn't help. It's not soundproof, either to her meowing or to the sound of her claws ripping away the veneer on the door. Of course, then there's that veneer...

So, that's why I have been up and about since 3:23 am. I should probably simply live with it and nap later in the day.

In other news, the email is back, and my mind is easy about a number of files that arrived "in the interim," so to speak. For now, if I'm not going back to bed for a while, it seems like a good time to start a load of laundry and perhaps tidy up the kitchen.

Cheers...

Well, I understand the 'cat' thing. Our 'Baby' is just a few years old, but two others are way up in years.
