An experiment in "time travel"...
Dec. 26th, 1989 09:30 pmI've run across a cache of pages manufactured under the name "e-z record" and measuring 3-7/8" in width and 6-1/2" in height. What is notable about them is that they represent one of my pre-LJ (and, of course, pre-DW) journaling efforts.
This post is an experiment to see if I can give this entry the date of the original journal record, i.e., December 26, 1989. Let's see...

And a transcription, resisting the urge to make corrections (but with some footnotes):
Cheers...
Footnotes:
1. At the time, I was working on a book titled Turbo C++ By Example, for M&T. The book was completed, the advance check was cashed, but for whatever reason, M&T decided not to publish the book (and did not ask for a refund).
2. Galina worked for a while with the Lutheran Social Services, helping a rather large group of refugees from the USSR become adjusted to life in the US (and in Florida, specifically).
3. BIX was the BYTE Information Exchange, an online service offered by BYTE magazine. It was on BIX that I made virtual acquaintances with a number of "names" in the industry, some of which I later met in person.

12/26/89 I have developed a predelection for this book format; I simply hope I can maintain it.Well... sumofthebits! Posts that predate the existence of LJ and DW are possible!
It is 9:30 pm. I haven't worked a lick at all on the book1 and (predictably) I am feeling a little tired (actually a LOT tired). I don't know how much longer I can do this... Tomorrow, Galina and the kids will leave for Orlando. Galina will return tomorrow night (sans kids). The kids will stay at the Shaughnessy's at Orlando. I will than have two days until Friday, the day of the LSS2 Refugee Resettlement Program Christmas party. I suspect I ought to make that a light day (or make Thursday last very long into the night!).
10:40 pm. I am getting ready to go to bed. I wrote somethinge like a rough draft of the chapter, which I WILL fill in tomorrow.
Hmmm. The ink dries most readily on this page, owing mostly to its rapid absorption. You can see the ink flowing into the page. I shall write a few pages like this and then reassess its utility.
There's an annoying twerp on BIX3 from South Africa. Says (among other things) that Johannesburg is as large as Panama.Panama : 29,000 sq mi.Okay, so I posted a snide comment, saying his knowledge of current events is mirrored by his knowledge of geography.
Johannesburg : ~35 × ~20 = ~700 (!?) sq. mi.
Cheers...
