(Be warned! Although I doubt it, here there may be spoilers...)

The trailers for I Am Legend and the fact that Will Smith was in the leading role made me want to see the movie but not so much that I was willing to shell out hard cash during its run in the theaters, for which I am now grateful.

I was enjoying the movie - mostly, as the setup required some heavy suspension of disbelief - up until what seemed to be the last three minutes, at which point I have this mental image of a beancounter walking onto the set during shooting and announcing that funding for the film had just run out, and could everyone please wrap the production by the close of business that day?

There were so many intriguing ends left waving in the breeze in the aftermath of the story, it's unreal. The most noticeable to me was what Neville's apparently observant scientific mind failed to notice, which was that the zombies weren't all mindless killing drones, but that some were capable of learning by example and acting in a goal-directed manner over time.

Enough of that. I have 22 pages to slog through translate for tomorrow morning. It also occurs to me that we had made an appointment to meet with the kitchen designer at 1 pm in Queens, which I shall have to reschedule, because the translation will pretty much take me all day.

Cheers...

I much preferred the alternate ending myself. I really enjoyed the movie myself, but I'm a real sucker for apocalypse fiction.

Your mention of an alternate ending made me fire up the DVD again, but the only thing out of the ordinary on the disk was a bunch of animations. Hmmm.

Wow.

The alternate you point to was the ending that I, somehow, had expected, as it was painfully clear - to me at least - that the alpha male was acting in a purposeful manner, and despite the fact that Neville was experiencing less-than-stellar mental moments, it was criminal (on the part of the writers) to keep him from realizing this.

Also, the "alternate" explanation of the title makes a lot more sense when compared to the horrid, touchy-feely mush offered at the very end of the film.

Thanks for the link.

Cheers...

P.S. I see from the TV ad that the DVD out there ought to have the alternate ending. However, I got my disk from redbox, so I don't know...
