My grandfather's "Employe's Identification" [sic] for the Works Progress Administration for the City of New York popped up on the radar today. Among other items, it cited my grandfather's height (5' 9") and weight (164 lb.), which is new information to me.
The original "classification" shown on the document was "Cartographer," but that's x'd out and "Draftsman" appears underneath, dated October 1939. The bottom edge of the paper is serrated, suggesting that the original form had at least two parts that were filled in, signed, witnessed, and then the form was torn apart at the serration and the top part was given to the individual identified in the document.
* * * A job with a 10-day lead time showed up today, and to be frank, I still haven't had a chance to take a good look at it. I sure hope it doesn't turn out like the last job of its kind, where I was given what appeared to be a generous deadline, only to find (after a weekend went by) that my inactivity had put me under the gun.
Cheers...
