Best films...

So, one might ask, just what are my favorite films, and what is my criterion for a film being favorite?

To answer the second question first, a favorite film is one that, given the time and inclination to watch a movie, I will be glad to watch yet again, either from the beginning or not.

My favorite movies are, in the order in which they occurred to me just now:

• Casablanca (Bogie, Bergman, Henreid, Raines)


• Apollo 13 (Tom Hanks)


• Remember the Titans (Denzel Washington)


• My Favorite Year (Peter O'Toole, Mark Linn-Baker)


• The Thin Man (William Powell, Myrna Loy)


• My Man Godfrey (William Powell, Carole Lombard)


• The Maltese Falcon (Bogie, Astor, Lorre, Greenstreet)


• The Big Sleep (Bogie & Bacall)


• Велое сольнце пустыни (White Sun of the Desert)


• Inherit the Wind (Spencer Tracy, Fredric March)


• Cyrano de Bergerac (1950, José Ferrer)


• The 13th Warrior (Antonio Banderas)

I feel compelled to expand on my choices (past mentioning memorable actors), but time is short, and it's been one heck of a long day.

The Thin Man, Inherit the Wind and Apollo 13 are three of my favorites too. I've seen (and enjoyed) several of the others, but those three are definitely up there for me.
