Dec. 3rd, 2001

I had started this post earlier, but got sidetracked, which is a dangerous thing to do on the VAIO nowadays, as it doesn't take much to bring this powerhouse to its knees, computing-wise. I switched from the LJ client to go fetch a Web document from the Casio web site, and before I knew it, I was sitting there, watching LEDs blink and a keyboard reduced to nothing.

So, let's try again...

My dream of not opening the store was a fine pipedream. While I am in Pagosa, I can expect to open the store every morning the store has to open. While I was there this morning, I served a series of customers whose whims ran the gamut from getting Priority Mail postage applied to a package to purchasing a sheet of 34-cent stamps.

'Long about 9 or so, Caleb, Galina, and Drew showed up and things didn't change much. I did the postal report and Galina came and said she was going to Durango to get snow tires.

After she left, the store filled with customers intent on giving the UPS guy a hernia. I finally broke away around 1:30 pm or so, simply because I had to get home and finish the third assignment from last week.

After yet another crash, I finally put together the translated document and sent it off around 5 pm my time. Whoo. Pee.

About that time, I received another assignment, 27 pages in length, due Friday. Lots of formatting, which makes my day, since one doesn't get paid for formatting in this business. It's just a good thing I'm good at it.

The evening has not been very fruitful, either. It turns out that the only manual for the store's (yet unused) second cash register is available from the manufacturer's web site (Casio) only in Spanish. Go figure.

Also, go figure why my machine crashed - hard - three times while trying to get at the appropriate pdf file. (I suspect - and I may have mentioned this before - that Mozilla is too greedy and causes Bad Things to happen, memory-wise.)

No matter about the cash register, though. The idiots at Office Max in Durango sold Galina a replacement ribbon whose bubble card doesn't even have the word "Casio" on it. Ye gods. So, I guess I'll try to limp through on what I've got.

(In case anyone's mood meter is busted, I am well and truly frustrated and ticked off.)

Grrr.

Cheers...
