Drew took off around noon to go paintballing, which seems to be his latest hobby. I've never participated in such sport; I don't know if I'd be interested. I've experienced enough "quick kill" exercises to last me a lifetime, I think.

Someone dropped a 1939 quarter into the till today. It's not in any sort of good shape as far as coins go, but it resonates with a certain ringing sound when dropped on a counter. I must have tossed it down a good dozen times, recalling that sound from my childhood.

After the store closed, I took off and drove through the woods. While there were many, many dried or dripping shaggy manes, there were also a number of new fruiting bodies. I must have brought home several pounds of shaggies, most of which I've fried, some of which I've boiled (I've never seen any recipies for boiling shaggy manes, in preparation for soup), and some of which I've discarded in a place where I hope to see shaggy manes in future years (although that's surely a long shot).

Among other pluses, my cardiologist is a fountain pen enthusiast. When I was writing a check to the clinic yesterday, the eyes of a young thing behind the counter widened and she cried "Look! He uses the same kind of pens you do, doctor!" My cardiologist declared my Conklin a "pristine" exemplar, which I happen to agree with. The more I write with it, the better control I seem to exhibit in line widths. I am also of the opinion that the only reason my pen might be classified as a "ladies" model is the lack of a clip on the cap. Then again, the overall capped length of my pen (4-1/4 inches) may not be standard. Who cares? It's still a blast writing with the instrument.

Cheers...
