Staying healthy (more or less)...
Nov. 14th, 2003 11:36 pmThe local Enterprise rent-a-car has a weekend special that I took advantage of, so I wouldn't have to rush to Durango for my cardio appointment and then rush back, which would have been the case if I had borrowed Drew's car. This way, I also still have the car for two more days (part of the weekend special), and it at least offers the possibility of getting out of the house, although where out of the house remains a mystery.
The doctor's appointment went well, with the doc going so far as to suggest that I would outlive him (which says either very good things about me, or bad things about him, or several other variations on a theme, none of which make much sense). The nurse that received me measured my BP at 100/60, which I thought was too low. When the doc retook it, it came out at 120/80, of all things.
I've lost 4 pounds since last time, too (data for the delectation of future generations). Only 56 more to go (I am such an optimist!), though even at 180 I would still theoretically be slightly overweight according to the newest, revised numbers. (I know such suspicions are unworthy, but I cannot help but think that this tendency to redefine "normal" weight downward, as well as the recent announcement of the downward redefinition of "normal" BP - it's no longer 120/80 - has something to do with pushing an ever-increasing number of people into the "sick" category, for various nefarious purposes. Then again, I may be wrong.)
I did manage to return to the store by 4:15 pm. Drew left shortly thereafter, leaving me to close the store. The rest, you can guess: go home, eat dinner, shuffle some papers. I've received 20 pages for Monday, which I think is doable even though I haven't yet looked at the material, and I must remember to invoice recent work on Monday as well. I also need to find a source of some high-speed black-and-white film that I can push develop myself, as I don't feel like having a third year of Leonid meteors fail to come out on conventional film processed conventionally (that is, assuming the night of the 19th is clear).
It's time to go to sleep now, but starting tomorrow, it'll be time to wake up and get into productivity mode, even though I've promised to hold the store after Drew sorts the mail.

rillifane has come up with a neat application for PhonePosts: posting what I can only describe as performances of various kinds (up to 5 minutes in length). He recently did an impressive reading from Lewis Carroll for what he called his "Internet children," and I can see the idea extended to recitals of poetry or perhaps even singing (although I fear the quality might suffer as the sound passes through the phone system). It's something to think about, at least.
Cheers...
