Decisions...
Oct. 12th, 2005 09:02 pmI formally accepted the Albuquerque gig today, which puts me out in the cold should circumstances change regarding Baikonur, but you know what they say about a bird in the hand. Otherwise, no calls, no change in status, no news about next week.
Today was another day at the store for me, and the major bad thing about that is that I'm away from my office and computer, which makes it hard to take care of things like calling banks, etc. Then again, I should probably put together the papers that I'll need during the day and take them along with me to the store and do what needs to be done from there.
Things are still up in the air regarding my attendance at the ATA conference in Seattle the first week in November. My recent billings are not exactly supportive of the expense, though going would allow me to see some folks that I haven't seen for a while (including a couple-three outside the translation profession), and would take care of the "continuing education requirement" (aka: "conference attendance incentive") that the ATA has in place for those who want to keep their certification.
In point of fact, over the years I have only been asked once about having said certification, by a company that wanted me to work in the other direction. OTOH, it'd be a shame to lose the darned thing, though it's actually premature to speak of losing the certification: The CE requirement could - if necessary - be satisfied by attending next year's conference, and at any rate, I suspect that quite a number of certified people will be in jeopardy of losing said certification by the end of the first CE cycle, making some kind of one-time special dispensation by the ATA leadership likely, in my mind.
Cheers...
