Falling into a routine...
Oct. 13th, 2005 07:41 pmThursday, same stuff. Tomorrow might be a good time to visit the hams at breakfast, to see if they still remember me. A short job came in that took a couple of hours, and that was that.
I guess I must have subconsciously thought of of keeping my mind off-balance and exercised while I was in Russia, because I picked up a set of French flash cards (non-beginning level) at the bookstore on Tverskaya. The kicker is that the "other" language of the flash cards is... Russian!
While my Russian is pretty good, still, neither Russian nor French are my native language, and forcing myself to create associations directly between those two languages (at least, I hope the associations are direct) will doubtless burn more than a few new neural pathways in this soup between my ears. (Now, if only I could remember what I did with the box containing the flash cards, that'd be an accomplishment! ... just kidding!)
In other news, I've signed up with DoylesRoom.com to play online hold'em. Like many sites, you can play for free (with an infinite supply of play money) or you can deposit some money in an account. I've set up a small account, simply because I've found that playing for free ruins the game for me, because there's really no risk (or pain, if you will) associated with frittering away the play money.
Over the past couple of weeks, I've played in several so-called "single table tournaments" where the entry fee was US$0.22 (twenty cents for the prize fund and two coppers for the house) with 50% of the US$1.80 prize fund going to the winner, and 30% and 20% going to the next two finishers, leaving 6 players in the cold. The structure of the game promotes reasonably fast play, so you can finish such a tournament in 40 minutes or less (depending on how people play).
Anyway, after finishing a couple of times "out of the money" in larger tables, this evening I won a 6-seat tournament.
Cheers...
