Yesterday, I installed Ubuntu 6.10 on the recovery partition of my VAIO. It worked like a charm, though I had to go in later and muck around with the grub loader, because sometimes, when the machine is started from its "suspended" state, it goes through a short boot routine that - before Linux was loaded - would simply restore my Windows setup.

Yesterday, however, I absent-mindedly pressed the power switch and walked away, expecting to come back to my Windows desktop, but that turned out not to be the case. Fortunately, rebooting into Windows restored my desktop, so there was no harm done, but I decided I wanted my VAIO to boot Windows by default, and now, that's the setup, so there are no problems there.

It took me a little while to figure out why I couldn't use Redbox promotion codes at the red machine that rents DVDs at Kroger's: the machine isn't a Redbox! (Oh, it's red, and the boxes it vends are red, and it works pretty much the way a Redbox works, but... you get the idea. Earlier tonight, Galina and I stopped by the McDonald's down by I-45 and 518, and we rented The Lake House (using the promo code BLIZZARD). We finished watching it a little while ago, and it was satisfyingly sentimental. (Last night, we watched the remake of Fun with Dick and Jane, which was a real yawn, in my opinion.)

I got a response to my submitted translation test:
Our UK office has evaluated your translation and commented that it is technically correct and in a good English :)
Gotta love those articles! (I should write Russian so well!)

Anyway, the note came almost on the eve of our trip, so I hammered out what I thought was a suitable response and sent it off a few minutes ago.

Also as of a few minutes ago, I have about 4,000 source words to translate of the job due before we leave. I don't see any show-stoppers, unless we count Galina bouncing around the house deciding what to take for the trip tomorrow. I'm planning on having to answer a lot of questions about what I plan to wear. I also have an invoice to write for this past week's activities (does a little dance!).

My meds arrived from Pagosa today, sent Next Day Air, though I had specified 2nd Day Air on Wednesday. I should count my blessings, I guess.

Cheers...
