Today's sim really took it out of me. I was doing the simultaneous space-to-ground for a sim that involved an EVA, which basically meant non-stop work for much of the 12 hours of the sim. Eventually, I had to declare breaks, during which I kept my mouth shut and devoted only minimal attention to what was being said (in case the sim team decided to pull a fast one and cause Something Bad™ to happen).
I decided to disturb the cole slaw that I started some time ago, to see what had happened. (Natalie was beginning to become suspicious of the strange, towel-draped container in the corner of the kitchen counter.) When I removed the towel and the water-filled bottle that was used as a weight to press down the cabbage, the contents of the container were anything but appetizing. For a moment or two, I seriously considered throwing the whole thing away.
Good - or some other - sense prevailed, and I merely poured off the foul-looking liquid with the questionable aroma. I tasted the product, and although it was at room temperature, it was crunchy, not too salty, and actually tasted pretty good. I transferred the contents to a plastic container and put it in the refrigerator, and this morning, I tried it again and cold, it was marvelous!
Natalie had to deliver me to JSC at 6:40 am this morning, so she's long been in bed. The dog continues to cry when left in her crate for the night, and Natalie has noted a possible hernia in the vicinity of the dog's hysterectomy scar, either from all of her yelping, or her jumping, or a combination. Fortunately, the dog is quiet now, and it's also time for me to hit the hay, as I have a fairly early day tomorrow, starting with support for Yuri Lonchakov at 8 am.
Cheers...
