Slogging through Sunday...
Jul. 29th, 2007 02:59 pmIn a completely one-sided manner, back when I was taking Shiloh home from the pound for the first time, I struck an agreement with the animal: I had, technically, extended its life by adopting it; in turn, it would do whatever magic that pets do to extend mine. To that end, I've resolved to do a better job of walking the dog, a task that lately had been reduced to letting Shiloh out the back door for a romp in what passes for a (very, very waterlogged) lawn.
This morning's mile-long walk went well, though between yesterday's visit to PetSmart, where Shiloh couldn't get enough petting and similar business from humans and frantically avoided contact with other canines (even a toy dachshund about half her size), and her behavior during this morning's constitutional, it's clear that I've fallen down in the "socialization" process. The only non-human that Shiloh seems to tolerate is Lili, who has a very low opinion of the dog (and, indeed, of most other mammals in the vicinity).
A Tuesday deadline for a 51-page translation/rework sort of set the pace for the day so far. The translation part of the assignment is about 3000 words long, which I figure I can take care of tomorrow. That leaves the 6000-word rework part of the job, which involves checking a previous English translation against a Russian revision and making the two match, down to the revision marks. I am about a third of the way through this part of the job, but a major constraint looms: "Tomorrow's" work starts at midnight tonight, and if I am to resemble something more alert than a turnip while on console, I shall have to grab a nap starting in about... 4 to 5 hours.
The subject line is inspired by the fact that, for I don't know what day in a row, it's raining hard out there.
Cheers...
