Lots of dust!
Apr. 7th, 2008 04:14 pmThe renovation continues apace as the guy who's going to do the kitchen showed up to start work on the kitchen. Galina, who has never met a wall that she's particularly liked, has slated the wall between the kitchen and the dining room to be removed. A little while ago, I captured the moment as preparations were under way to remove the original wall studs:

We uncovered a "funny" (as in "Hmmm, that's funny!" in the sense of Whisky-Tango-Foxtrot) in the way the house was wired. When the light switch in the dining room (which used to be in the wall that's gone, now) was removed, the power to my office (to the right of the camera) went out.
Fortunately, there's a whole separate circuit in the den that was put in to support an air conditioner, so right now, all "essential systems" (i.e., my computer, cable modem, router, extra monitor) are sitting at the end of an orange extension cord plugged into that outlet.
Apropos of which, I am just over 2/3 of the way through the planned 26 pages for the day, and I even managed to slip in a 450-word "warmup" translation for a client. (Had it been over 500 words, I would likely have declined the job.)
Cheers...
