The next time I agree to listen to a timeshare sales pitch, someone please whisper "Root canal with no painkiller" in my ear, okay? Things went well until we said "No," at which point predatory types at various levels of the food chain took their turn at us. When one guy rather high up on the ladder actually started insulting me, I smiled my patented "I'm not quite sane" smile and threatened to raise my voice.

This trip is turning out to be quite a vacation for the car. The water pump repair, including a new pump, new coolant, a new belt, and all labor came to 1626 pesos, or a tad over US$100. Later in the day, we stopped by a car wash in town and asked for the deluxe deal (it was about $7) and ended up with a detail job that would've run us around $75 in Pagosa.

Tomorrow, I plan to do a lot of nothing and think about this week's LJ Idol theme. I have some ideas, but don't know what to do with them. The quirk of actually having gathered the most votes during this past week's poll - I have usually ranked in the bottom third of contestants - isn't lost on me: I'm scared to death of developing an overly inflated ego and not following through with something at least as good. So. tomorrow is for thinking.

Data point: When I went to buy some tequila and margarita mix at a local supermercado, the price was reasonable (less than US$10 for the tequila) and there was no question of carding me at the checkout. In Albuquerque a few weeks ago, I was carded when I walked into a bar, after I made it clear that I was leaving without advancing another step toward where booze was served.

Mexico - or at least Puerto Peñasco - strikes me as being a lot like Greece, but without all the regimentation.

Cheers...
