There was a chunk of nearly 3000 new words in the 75-page item I'm reworking for Tuesday, so I decided to get it out of the way, figuring it would be a nice change of pace (aerospace) from the huge translation on surveying I'm working on.

Surveying is not my strong suit, at least in terms of specific terminology, though I have a fairly good idea of what the text is trying to say. Still, terminology is important, which is why I've gotten bogged down a few times the past couple of days doing research.

Anyway, the chunk is done, so I think I'll rest for a couple of hours and then go back and hit the surveying job, which has a little more than 31,000 words to go, and whittle it down some.

Is it really Saturday?

... and minutes, and seconds of arc.

I am almost to the point where I am about to revive an old technique I used back when everything was strange and new to me, and that was to create individual nonsense terms (I remember one was 'trrbda', which stood for 'ta-ra-ra-boom-dee-ay!') for source terms that had me mystified.

The idea was that, by the end of the translation, I would either know what these various 'terms' were actually supposed to be or I would have some pretty good guesses lined up, whereupon I would undertake a flurry of search and replace operations to get rid of the made-up terms. That way, at least, any of my guesses that were wrong would be relatively easy to fix, since I was (and remain) pretty religious about keeping terms used in translations non-foolishly consistent.

After this morning's productivity, my pace now is pitiful. But that's no reason to get discouraged.

Cheers...
