Power loss is not the only threat.
Sep. 7th, 2011 06:55 amI looked in on the computer running the disk recovery program, expecting to see 8%–12% progress after 4 days of continuous operation.
Instead, I was greeted by a blank screen and a helpful popup informing me that Windows had automatically updated my computer and, of course, performed a restart.
Whatever else the computer may have been doing at the time, of course, could not possibly be of the least importance or significance, so whatever progress that had occurred was swept into the bit-bucket.
Of course, it could have been worse: The program could have been nearing the end of its run, about a month from now, when Windows decided to do its thing.
Note to self: Plugging the machine into a UPS was a good idea. Next time, disable automatic updates, too.
The day's agenda calls for finishing off the item due this morning and then "turning to" on a 4,000 word assignment.
But first, some coffee, maestro!
Cheers...
