On my way!

I left the house on very nearly the dot of 9 am, and stopped at the bank to cash a check and some rolled coins. It turns out that rolling coins is a thing of the past, as I had to wait while the teller broke the rolls, fed the coins into a machine, and then spent about 15 minutes unjamming said machine.

It made for a vary slow start to the day.

I am nearly 350 miles toward my destination, with about 1650 miles left to go. I'm in Garden City, Kansas, eating dinner at a Thai place.

No time to muse; it's stuff-the-face-and-back-on-the-road for me. I'd like to put at least 120 more miles on the tires before turning in for the night.

Three hisses for DRM...

Among the other "features" of Apple's 10.4 release of iTunes is the apparent loss of the ability to sync Audible books.

For its part, Audible insists that you use iTunes if you want to listen to their stuff on an Apple media player (e.g., iPod, iPad).

As I sped through the Kansas countryside this evening, I became acutely aware of just how out-of-luck one can be in listening to the radio if one has never developed a taste for coverage of high school football games. I was subsequently curious to note that my iPad contained no Audible books, which do a dandy job of passing the time while one is driving.

Le sigh.

A scan of the Internet suggests that the 10.4.1 release of iTunes merely refined some of the bugs that were so prominent in 10.4.0, so we shall exercise discretion until the bugs are killed instead of made more destructively efficient.

Only 3.5 weeks until the Kindle Fire comes out. Now, that should be interesting.
