After a morning of translation (at first, it looked as if the end client had decided to work on Friday, but then it developed that it had been a false alarm), Galina and I ventured off to see about fixing the battery problem that cropped up recently on her month-old Nokia, which ended up being a phone replacement problem because the phone's battery is not user replaceable.

While in the mood to fix stuff, we drove across town to arrange for Galina to get a new pair of glasses. That took some time, and caused us to get caught in the homeward-bound rush hour, and me to again wonder what it is that makes people tolerate that grind.

I probably forever lost my taste for commuting the summer I had a serious tiff with my parents, talked the housing office at SUSB into letting me stay at a dorm at the university, and commuted to my summer job in Manhattan for a few weeks. My schedule had me catching the 5:05 am out of Stony Brook and getting back at some time after 8 pm, if memory serves. By some miracle, although I spent a lot of time sleeping during the commute, I never overslept the train changes at Manhasset or Jamaica going into work, or at said stations to change trains or at Stony Brook to disembark coming home.

Time to hit the sack, I think. I am well and truly tired.
