Live blogging today...

Hmmm.

Having written the subject, I realize it skirts the edges of sanity, unless I simply want to consider today as an event, along the lines of a hockey game.

So I got up at my usual time and did all the usual morning stuff. I sat down to do a "warm up" on my computer, which consisted of another familiarization session with an interesting piece of software that was recommended to me called "Scrivener." I like the application, and am slowly adding material to a couple of projects I've created.

The warm-up lasted about 20 minutes, at which time I finished my coffee and "turned to" on the remaining 2754 words of editing left to be done.

I hoped to get it done by 9 am. The actual time was 9:15, which is not bad. The remaining time between now and the noon deadline will be taken up with despeckling.

More about which later. Maybe.

The rain is really coming down hard, and there's flashes of lightning that keep catching my eye. <whistles in no apparent melody>

It turns out memoQ (translation memory software) apparently will not catch duplicated words, e.g., "the forest for the the trees."

I was planning to do an eyeball of the exported file, anyway, but still... now, anything I changed in the exported file I really ought to go back and change in the memoQ translation database...

...like that's gong to happen with less than two hours to go before the deadline.

FWIW, this is the first time I'm using memoQ in an environment where the database lives on an agency's server, and I'm editing work done by some other person. I may comment on this setup further later, but now, I MUST GET BACK TO WORK!

I got a one-hour extension from the project manage, which I made in the shade, although I did miss the original deadline by about half an hour.

It was a challenging way to get introduced to this particular form of work (I've edited another translator's text before—though not long before), but not in a situation where the translation memory file is on a server (I'm not exactly sure how this impacted me, past slowing me down) and the translated text exhibits mannerisms I didn't particularly care for.

(You raise your brows at my characterization of text as exhibiting "mannerisms"? I suppose you could call it a "style" or a "way of saying things," with perhaps some irregularity of "register"—but I prefer "mannerisms," 'k?)

Tired as all get-out. I've been going 100% since about 5:15 this morning. I think I've earned a nap.
