A couple of quiet conversations with colleagues in Houston convinced me that the last line of the refrain in my most recent translation of Ваше благородие is just a little too raw. The singer of:

Не везёт мне в смерти, повезет в любви!

says, basically, that since he's not "lucky at dying," he'll be "lucky at love."

I gave this some thought on the drive home last weekend and came up with an alternative to:

I'm no good at dying, I'll be good in bed!

I think the following is better (and preserves the "ed" at the end of the line), at least for now:

I'm no good at dying, I'll fall'n love instead!

Still trying to work those guitar lessons into my schedule, though. :^)

Thanks for the pointers. I bought a paper edition of Dal' a few years ago and find it reasonably useful, and also have a version of the dictionary on CD (if memory serves)... or maybe it's some other tolkovyi slovar'.
