I think!?

I just got this in the e-mail, regarding a recent translation of mine:
[...] and hardly does it sound like a translation from russian. Russians have a lack of feeling in their language, but yet this text smacks of pure english.
I think the writer is mistaken with regard to his assessment of the Russian language, and that takes away from the overall effect, but still...

...its' nice to get a compliment about one's work!

Cheers...

:)

And those compliments are so rare, making it even better. But yes, I do think the writer's mistaken. I find Russian extremely expressive.

Re 'gradients' (your earlier post). I must say I looked on Google... (ever curious, me). It sounded odd to 'use' gradients in the sense 'the measurement of a slope', but in the sense of 'grading' it seemed more or less feasible.

I cannot read Russian, but with the literature in translation I've read over the years I simply cannot agree with the writer's assessment of the language.

That says, I don't think his confusion diminishes the compliment at all! Congratulations!
