Maybe this has been going on for a while, but checking into the iWon portal reveals a new twist: an audio soundtrack to go along with their banner-strewn Web page.

For McDonald's, no less. Ye gods.

Personally, I really despise background audio in e-mails and Web pages. Thankfully, to date, the number of such messages and pages has been minuscule. The down side of that is that, because this phenomenon is rare, I've never investigated to see if there's a way to turn audio off in web browsers, the same way one can elect to not download images?

No matter. For the time being, the standard method for dealing with this shall be the liberal use of the "Delete" and "Back" keys, as required

The translation due tomorrow kinda snuck up on me this morning with its complexity. About mid-day, I was feeling as if I was getting nowhere with it, probably due to the nature of the beast.

The document consists of a few large tables, very few sentences in between. There is a strong temptation - and one that I do not resist - to skip over 'hard' items and go on to the next 'easy' ones. While this technique usually gives the impression of great speed - and hence, makes you feel as if you're clipping along and being very productive - having to go back later and find the untranslated parts wastes a lot of time and brings you down.

My problem this morning was: there simply weren't too many 'easy' items, so I really never got going. At any rate, a few minutes ago, I highlighted the items I have left to do, and it's a comfortingly small volume of words.

The other two computers I ordered for the store came in yesterday. Now I have to come up to speed quickly in Windows 2000. I am hoping it will give me the level of control I will need to prevent - or at least slow down - any script kiddies who decide to use the shop's computers to launch The Next Great Internet Virus, or something equally disastrous.

Tired am I, evidenced by the fact I am starting to type like Yoda speaks. G'night.

Cheers...
